Festive Calendar of Cajamarca

February 11th
Anniversary of Cajamarca, a party organized by the municipality of the city in which usually presents national musical groups and fireworks.

End of February to mid-March
Carnival of Cajamarca, is the most important party in the city. Parade, coronation of queens, preparation of typical food and drinks, and “hunshas (iunsas)”. Cajamarca is known as “Capital del Carnaval Peruano”

Mid april
Holy Week in Cajamarca. Traditional festivity of greater popular fervor in Peru, from immemorial years, diverse processions are realized that remember to the Passion and death of Jesus Christ.

April 13th
On the eve of Palm Sunday, the crosses prepared and decorated for the occasion by the farmers of Cajamarca, are taken along the ravine to converge on the house of the festival's Mayordomo (the person in charge of this celebration). On Palm Sunday, the crosses are carried in procession once again, together with Our Lord of the Palm, who travels on a white mule all the way to the chapel of the community of Porcon. Throughout the march, residents sing in Quechua, Latin and Spanish.

Corpus Christi
This is the most important religious festival in the City of Cajamarca. Following a solemn mass, the sanctuary of the Cathedral known as “La Preciosa” is carried in procession, once a year. In addition to the religious celebration, there are bullfights, fairs and various contests.

July 15th and 16th
Main Days of the Feast of Our “Virgen del Carmen”. The Province of Celendín shows its devotion to “Virgen del Carmen” with masses and processions, but also activities such as bullfights and trade fairs.

July 24th to July 31th
FONGAL Fair of Cajamarca, in the province of Cajamarca, district of Baños del Inca. Exhibition and sale of agricultural and industrial products, there are also exhibitions of “Caballo de Paso Peruano” and marinera among others.

July 28th and 29th
Independence Day: Patriotic Anniversary, in all of Peru, civic-military activities are carried out; parade throughout the homeland, also popular regional and local fairs, folk concerts (Andean and “criollos”) with the presentation of rock groups. During these dates it is very usual to observe the circuses installed in different regions of Peru

September 8th
Huanchaco fest in the district of Baños del Inca.

From 15th to 23th of september
Lord of Huamantanga (September 23 to 25), Province of Jaén, district of Jaén Regional fair in which religious, cultural and sports activities. Its implementation contributes to strengthen relations with Ecuador country and promote binational tourism.

October
Start of tourist months for groups of schools, universities and institutions. At Hotel Los Nogales we offer special rates for groups or according to the period of stay. Specifically from 7 - 12 the Tourist Week starts in Cajamarca Social and cultural activities, such as exhibitions of paintings and photography, as well as folk dances are performed at this time. There are also a variety of contests, cockfighting and sports competitions.
